Some experiences change a person’s life forever. For Precious Oluchi Chimezie, her battle with serious health conditions in 2020 became one of the most difficult chapters of her life, marked by surgery, loss, financial hardship, and a long road to recovery.
Today, the 26-year-old from Imo State is a student, a fuel station worker, and a part-time baker. Her journey is a reminder of the strength it takes to keep going when life becomes overwhelming.
Three Medical Conditions, One Major Battle

In May 2020, Precious underwent surgery for appendicitis, a tumour, and an ovarian cyst.
The experience was difficult for both her and her family. While she was receiving treatment, her mother struggled to raise the money needed to cover her hospital bills.
According to Precious, her mother earned a living selling cooked and roasted corn by the roadside. With limited financial resources, meeting the cost of her daughter’s treatment was a significant challenge.
A Family Tragedy During Her Hospital Stay

While Precious was still in the hospital, her family experienced another devastating loss.
Precious was born a twin, but sadly, her twin brother passed away during the same period. She explained that he needed oxygen, and her family struggled to afford the medical expenses.
At the time, Precious was still fighting for her own recovery and did not know that she had lost her twin.
It was a painful experience for her family, adding another layer of grief to an already difficult period.
Four Months in the Hospital and the Fear of Never Walking Again
Precious spent approximately four months in the hospital as her mother struggled to settle the medical bills.
However, leaving the hospital did not mean her challenges were over. After her treatment, Precious could not walk properly and feared she might never regain her ability to walk normally.
For a young woman who had already endured so much, the uncertainty surrounding her recovery was another difficult hurdle.
A Mother’s Sacrifice That Changed Everything
One of the most meaningful parts of Precious’s story is the role her mother played in her recovery.
According to Precious, her mother stopped her business and devoted her time to teaching her how to walk again.
Day after day, she helped her daughter take small steps towards recovery, refusing to give up on her.
That patience and determination became a crucial part of Precious’s journey back to walking.
For Precious, her mother’s sacrifice remains something she will never forget.
Where Is Precious Today?
Now 26, Precious is continuing to build her life. She recently began studying at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), works at a fuel station, and also bakes part-time.
Although she does not have videos documenting her hospital stay or recovery, she has shared photographs from that period as a reminder of what she endured.
Looking back, she says she is grateful to God for keeping her alive and giving her another opportunity to live.
Her Message to Anyone Facing a Difficult Health Challenge
Precious hopes that sharing her experience will encourage people dealing with serious health challenges not to give up.
Her journey was marked by painful loss, financial struggles, and a difficult recovery, but she is grateful for the opportunity to keep moving forward.
Her story also highlights the sacrifices families sometimes make when caring for a loved one through a medical crisis.
Precious Oluchi Chimezie’s journey is a story of survival, a mother’s unwavering love, and the hope of beginning again after life’s most difficult moments.
