At just one year old, Anuoluwapo Adesina suffered a life-changing accident that led to the amputation of her right hand. What followed was a difficult journey of hospital visits, painful decisions, emotional struggles, and a motherโs determination to help her daughter through it all.
Today, at seven, Anuoluwapo is growing, learning, playing, and dreaming of becoming a doctor. Her story is a powerful reminder that a difficult beginning does not have to define a childโs future.
The Accident That Changed Everything

Anuoluwapoโs injury occurred at her motherโs workplace, where sugarcane juice was extracted using a machine. The accident left her with a severe injury to her right hand, and her family was suddenly faced with an overwhelming medical emergency.
Her mother, Blessing Adesina, recounts the frightening moments after the incident, the desperate search for medical care, and the uncertainty surrounding her daughterโs recovery.
A Motherโs Pain and a Difficult Decision
The days that followed brought more challenges as Anuoluwapo received treatment at different hospitals. Despite the familyโs hope that her hand could be saved, doctors eventually warned of the danger of a spreading infection.
Faced with an agonising decision, the family ultimately consented to the amputation. The experience was physically and emotionally demanding, and Blessing also had to endure hurtful comments and public judgment while caring for her daughter.
Yet, through the difficult months of treatment and recovery, she continued to stand by Anuoluwapo.
Growing Beyond Her Injury

Now seven years old, Anuoluwapo is much more than the accident she survived. She enjoys reading and playing, has friends, and speaks about her ambition to become a doctor so she can treat people.
